Initiation to Professional Practice (IPP)
includes contact with didactic-pedagogical experiences in
different educational realities, promoting a set of
knowledge which is intended to be integrated in the
different social realities, aiming at an effective
articulation between theory and practice. Following the
Bologna model, it is proposed to provide students with a
set of skills, abilities, knowledge and attitudes that
allow them to enter the labour market as Basic Education
graduates, presenting different organizational phases:
Phase 1: General Character - takes place throughout the
1st and 2nd years, with the contact hours set for each
semester, and contemplates the training of students in
formal and non-formal educational contexts in different
institutions. To this end, we promote their integration in
Kindergartens, Municipal Libraries integrated in the
Public Libraries Network, National Reading Plan, AEC,
Associations, Museums, several spaces in Schools (such as
libraries and laboratories), Playrooms, Hospitals,
Municipal Councils, Foundations or Social Security
Protocolled Institutions (IPSS) linked to education,
healthcare and culture, among others, with which the ESE
João de Deus has protocols;
Phase 2: Specific character - preferably carried out in
formal educational contexts, in institutions with which
the ESEJD has established protocols; the IPP in these
institutions takes place in the 3rd year (5th and 6th
semesters) of the degree course;
Phase 3: Contact Seminar with the educational reality -
concentrated and limited in time, it can also be held
outside Portugal, according to protocols previously
established between the ESE João de Deus and foreign
countries or international organizations as PALOP (African
Countries whose official language is Portuguese), ERASMUS,
World OMEP, UNESCO Schools, etc.
The IPP curriculum has specific teachers to guide and
support students throughout the degree.
Career Prospects
Although this degree is primarily intended to give access
to the Master's Degrees which enable teachers to become
Kindergarten Educators or Primary and Middle School
Teachers, valued by employers and conferring a high rate
of employability. The holders of this degree could be able
to work in technical education positions in one of the 55
João de Deus Education Centres, placed all over Portuguese
territory.
